

Charles LeRoy Clardy, was the second born to Edgar Clardy and Iris O. Colbert. Born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma on October 2, 1941. Charles had three brothers, Phillip Owens, Leslie D. Clardy, and William Clardy. Charles attended the segregated schools of Sapulpa Oklahoma, and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School–“Home of the Bulldogs”--in 1959. Immediately upon graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed at Edwards Air Force Base in Kern County, California. After four years of service, he was given an honorable discharge, settling in Compton, California where he worked for the City of Los Angeles. He began his career with the City as a truck driver for Street Maintenance and accepted increasing positions to his final position of cement finisher. Charles retired from the City of Los Angeles in 1999, after 30 years of dedicated service. His family moved to Bloomington California in 1971 he has been a staple of the community for the rest of his years. Charles was an avid fisherman who frequented the coast of Ventura county. To say he enjoyed the sport is an understatement–he loved it. He also enjoyed attending his high school class reunions back in Oklahoma. He also traveled to many places such as Las Vegas, Jamaica, Minnesota, and all parts of California. On October 27, 1983, Charles was reborn, making a courageous decision to embrace a life free from the clutches of addiction. Over the past four decades, Charles has not only triumphed over personal challenges but has also dedicated himself to helping others navigate the path to recovery. For an impressive 25 years, he served as a DUI counselor at Cedar House in Bloomington, CA. His unwavering commitment and compassionate guidance have undoubtedly touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on the community. Charles' resilience, dedication, and passion for helping others have been the driving forces behind his transformative journey. His 41 years of sobriety stand as a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the possibility of positive change. Mae Roberts was the love of Charles’s life. They were married in 1961 and stayed together for a loving 41 years until her transition in 2001. From this union they raised two daughters, Tanya and Jacquelyn. Charles was a devoted family man, giving support and imparting strength and direction to his family. He was happy sharing his life with his many friends and neighbors, often lending an ear to those who needed someone to listen, being the voice of reason, and comforted those burdened by the hardships and perplexities of life. His positive attitude and outlook on life made him well liked by everyone who knew him. Charles was preceded in death by: his wife Mae Clardy, his daughter Jacquelyn Clardy and his brother Leslie D. Clardy. Charles is survived by his brothers Phillip Owens, William Clardy; his daughter Tanya Joseph (Rohan), his three grandchildren, his friend, Jacqueline Sparrow, and a host of other relatives and friends.
