Dorothy Lee Gray lived to the age of 73. She was born November 25th 1946 in Kansas City, Kansas to George Gray and Ellen Haynes. On February 18, 1963 she gave birth to her only child Ronald Lewis Gray.
Dorothy relocated to San Bernardino,California in the late 60’s where she pursued her career in nursing . After working as a nurse for several years at California Institution For Men and Youth State Prison in Chino, CA.,she made a career change and decided to attend,The State of California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitations Trainning Academy in Sacramento California. After completing training, she then began her career as a Correctional Officer until retirement in December of 2009.
During retirement she spent her time enjoying the fruits of her labor which included traveling, collecting collectibles, shopping and attending water aerobics.
Dorothy was strong-willed, giving, nurturing and had a huge open heart for those who came into her life.
Dorothy is survived by her son Ronald Gray Sr., along with two brothers Bruce Gray and Bill Gray. Nine grandchildren Ronesha Gray, Chimere Gray-Williams,Ronald Gray Jr., Lakia Gray, Kalifa Gray, Ronni Gray, Niamke Gray, Kwamina Cook and Latifa Ashton. Eighteen great-grandchildren and two great great grandchildren plus a host of family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents George Gray and Ellen Haynes as well as her brother George Gray Jr. and her loving life long partner of 20 years Charles Scurlock.
