
James Horace Gilmet (89), known affectionately as “POP” and “PAPA” to family and friends passed on Saturday, February 19, 2011 after a short illness due to a stroke. Jim was born on October 21, 1921 in Lackawanna, New York to John and Mary Gilmet. He is survived by three sons, Justin H. Gilmet (Ginger) of Joshua Tree, Ca, Jerry L. Reynolds (Nancy) of Torrance, CA and William D. Reynolds (Karen) of El Paso, Tx and daughter Karolyn Rosolini-Hastings (Jay) of Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, son James (Jay) Harold, and his loving wife Sally (Syble). “Pop” will always be remembered by his family and friends. His has left footprints on our hearts and we will love him forever.
The Gilmet family resided in Redondo Beach for 25 years. In his younger days, he was an amateur boxer and was awarded the “golden gloves”. They lived in Fontana, California until the death of his beloved wife, Sally. Jim then moved to Pueblo, Colorado to be near family and his long-time friend, Barbara Cozzetto until her death in 2010. Jim also served in WWII in the Army Air-Corp as a chief mechanic on the Enola
Gay and was a union truck driver until his retirement. He has since lived with immediate family, son Justin, in Joshua Tree, California. He was a member of the Bloomington Church of the Nazarene, Bloomington, Ca. for over 25 years. He has 14 grandchildren: William (Anita) Reynolds II, Sherry Reynolds, Tommy Elam, Dawn Stockton of Gardnerville, Nv., Jerry Jr. (Denise) of Rancho Cucamonga, Ca., Debra (Marc) Simons of Torrance, Ca, Billy D. (Michelle) Reynolds of Bakersfield, Robin Gilmet, Jessica (Chris) Hopkins of Yucaipa, Ca., Joshua Gilmet of Upland, Ca., engaged to be Jamie (Victor) Foster of Banning, Ca., Joel Gilmet of Banning, Ca., Todd Rosolini of Pueblo, Colo., and Chad (Valerie) Rosolini of Pueblo, Colo., and 17 great-grandchildren. The family said flowers are welcome. In addition, if you wish, donations may be sent in tribute to Jim for continued Hospice Care for others to the Visiting Nurse Association of the Inland Counties (VNA), a non-profit organization. Services will be held at Green Acres Chapel on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Green Acres Memorial Park and Mortuary, 11715 Cedar Avenue in Bloomington, CA. Immediately followed by the Grave site Committal. Pastor Jack Eyestone, from Bloomington Church of the Nazarene will be officiating.
