

Candy was born in Normal to Earl and Rita Smith Cottrell on Jan. 26, 1957. She attended Normal Community High School. She attended beauty school while in high school and then worked for Regis salons. She also worked as an administrative assistant for Jumer's and DoubleTree hotels. On Dec. 21, 2012, she married Jordan D. Painter.
Candy was a unique and creative woman who loved to craft. She was an amazing ceramics artist, not to mention cook, baker and canner. Candy was incredibly organized despite her artistic eye. Those who knew her also knew her love for the color purple. She was a wonderful person who will be truly missed by her loved ones.
She is survived by her husband, Jordan; mother, Rita Cottrell; "bff," Judy Smith Dougherty; stepchildren, Tyler Morris, Lisa Ann Robinson and Jason McDonnald; niece, Danielle Sheehan; nephew, Keith Sheehan; and seven grandchildren. She is also survived by her faithful companions, Stash and Chula.
She was preceded in death by her father, Earl; brother, Keith Cottrell; sister, Pam Sheehan; and stepdaughter, Katrina McDonnald.
There will be a service in her memory at 11 a.m. Wednesday at East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington.
Memorial donations made in Candy’s honor can be sent to the Humane Society of Central Illinois.
