

Charles F. Childers, 90, of Normal, IL, passed away Thursday evening, Jan. 12, 2017, peacefully at his home with his granddaughters Cori and Courtney by his side. We are now comforted in knowing he is now home with the Lord and rejoined with the love of his life, his wife Marge, son Curtis Lee, his and his mother and father, Cora and Curtis Childers, who all preceded him in death.
He was born October 20, 1926 in Pontiac, IL. He married Marjorie Helen Myers on July 9, 1948 in Alton, IL.
He is survived by his son Charles Michael (wife Christine) Childers of Noblesville, IN and his daughter Cheryl Lynn (husband Steve) Floyd of Normal, IL; and his beloved friend Loren (wife June) Devore of Heyworth, IL. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, Gary Miller of Normal, Michelle (husband Vic) of Gibson City, Annette Hayes (Husband Miller) of Humboldt Tennessee, Amanda (Husband Jeff) Walburn of Sanford North Carolina, Christopher Michael (Sarah) Childers of Temecula, CA, Cori Elizabeth (Husband Shane) Childers – Gossard of Noblesville, IN, Courtney Lee (Devin) Childers of Indianapolis, IN.
Great grandchildren are Lynnette Bauer of Mesa, AZ, Mallory Bauer of Gibson City, Darin Bauer of Gibson City, James Gossard, Leighton Gossard and Caylee Garner all of Noblesville, IN, Aaron Christman, Curtis Christman and Clayton Christman of Gibson City, Trace Hayes of Humboldt Tennessee, Victoria Rabacchi, Callen Walburn, Collins Walburn of Sanford, North Carolina.
A celebration of Chuck’s life will be held at East Lawn Funeral Home Tuesday January 17, 2017 at 10:30 AM. Rev. Richard Gray of Heyworth will officiate.
Chuck joined the Army shortly have grade school. After basic training, he went to culinary school. Later in life, he joined the Navy and served two years as a mine sweeper from 1944 to 1945. After release from service, he held several jobs. He cooked at various restaurants around town and also drove a city bus for two years. Chuck retired from State Farm Insurance but his passion for cooking is how he preferred to spend his time. In fact, Chuck was the chef for the annual spaghetti dinner at the Peoria Elks Club for 15 years. He also was a cook at Stevies Latin Village in Springfield and Bloomington. He donated his time to raise funds for the D.A.R.E. program. He also made his famous spaghetti dinners for his grandchildren’s schools, Calvary Baptist Church and for his Bloomington Masonic Lodge. He will also be remembered for his famously delicious BBQ chicken that he took to businesses and people he had met along life’s path.
Chuck was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge, the Shriners and the Peoria Elks Club. He devoted his life to his family. He was always there when he was needed. He was very dedicated and loyal to his family and friends. Chuck's proudest moments was celebrating 50 years of marriage by renewing vows.
Him and his wife’s decade’s long friend Loren Devore of Heyworth was more than his Power of Attorney; Loren was his closest friend and caregiver. Loren gave his all ensuring Chuck was taken care of after his wife’s passing away.
Friend, Dad, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Chuck will be forever missed. He put joy in the hearts of all.
