Gailen Ray Smiley

Gailen R. Smiley, 67, of Normal passed away at his residence and surrounded by family on October 26,2021. He was born on June 4, 1954, to Alfred and Marcella (Coit) Smiley and married the love of his life, Marci Payne in 1979.

He is survived by Marci, his sons: Mathew (Leslie) Smiley, Michael (Wendy) Smiley; grandchildren: Mackenzie, Abel, Madelyn; and his sister Florence. He is preceded in his death by his parents and sister, Sandra Smiley. Gailen worked at State Farm for 33 years and retired a year ago.

Visitation will be held November 3, 2021, at East Lawn Funeral Home from 3:00 pm-5:00 pm, with brief service to follow.

He enjoyed watching his sons and granddaughter over the years in their sports and was also an active participant in work team sports. He loved watching the Cubs, Bears, and NASCAR. He loved to travel with family and friends and especially sitting on the beach watching the waves and the many horizons.

Gailen enjoyed being busy in the outdoors and with nature. He was a founding member of the local Pheasants Forever and active participant. He loved helping his sons, Mathew and Michael, with their home projects and other outside projects as well as being their mechanic. He would always lend a helping hand to all when needed.

Most of all he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother as well as friend. Mackenzie, “Bull”, and “Little Peanut” were very precious to him and provided special memories for each of them. Marci has 45 years of memories spent with Gailen.

Gailen was a quiet man and we will always remember his common words “peachy” and “you are correct.”
