He was born Aug. 21, 1923 in Ellsworth, IL to Frank and Lizzie (Hess) Cope. He married Catherine VanWinkle on Oct. 12, 1951 in Colfax, IL. She survives along with three sons: Ricky Cope of Cary, IL, Dwayne Cope of McHenry, IL, Ronald Cope of Cary, two grandchildren: Bob (Sue) Cope, Pam (Tony) Passarelli, four great-grandchildren, and one brother, Dale (Ina) Cope of Vincennes, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and five brothers.
George was a United States Army veteran. He first started out farming on the family farm then went to work for Curtis Breeding Services in Cary until its closing, then retired from Warwick Publishing.
He was a member of the LeRoy Christian Church.
Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 8, 2019 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the East Lawn Funeral Home in Bloomington. A graveside service will follow the visitation at East Lawn Memorial Mausoleum.
