James Arthur Evans

He was born February 14, 1923 in Cool Springs Township, NC, son of James A. and Alice Higgins Evans. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother and one sister.

Surviving are one daughter, Judy (Tom) Gordon of Champaign and one son, Jim Evans of Penfield; three grandchildren, Cody (Rebecca) Evans of TX, Jeff (Tania) Goldenstein of GA and Alana (Dave) Stagnolia of IN and six great-grandchildren. James had a blended family and also leaves behind his loving companion, Laverne Hansen of Ft. Myers, FL; her daughter, Karen Fawcett of Ft. Myers, FL and grandchildren, Jackie Fawcett and Bobby Fawcett.

James was a United States Army Veteran, serving from March 5, 1940 until July 1, 1945. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 0518 of Ludlow, IL.

Jim didn’t know the meaning of the word stranger, and people were drawn to his infectious smile and easy humor. Jim was bless with many good friends – he will be greatly missed.

A private celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Church of the Nazarene, 603 E Grove Ave, Rantoul, IL. Cremation rites have been accorded. East Lawn Funeral Home in Bloomington, IL is handling arrangements.
