

Born on August 4, 1936, in Dekalb County, Mississippi, daughter of Inez and Jimmy Campbell. She married Curtis Spinks, he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by one son, Randolph Spinks; one daughter, Cynthia Kemp; two sisters, Lee Iviry and Mary Campbell; one brother, Jimmy Clyde and a granddaughter, Emily Spinks.
Surviving are one son, James (Gloria) Spinks of Bloomington, IL; six grandchildren, Marquette London of Chicago, IL, James M. Spinks Jr of El Paso, IL, Micole (Melvin) Brooks of Burnham, IL, Tiarra Grant of Normal, IL, Steven Grant of Oklahoma City, OK and Justin Grant of Bloomington, IL; 18 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Earlene (Ron) Smith of Chicago, IL and Charlene Freeman of Cincinnati, OH; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
Josephine worked as a cashier for over 47 years at Jewel-Osco in Chicago, IL, before her retirement. Josephine was a dedicated member of Greater Canaan Baptist Church in Chicago, IL. She served on the Senior Usher Board at her church.
She loved cooking holiday meals and baking cakes for her family and friends. She also enjoyed sewing and making clothing and keepsakes for her grandchildren. Josephine will be fondly remembered as 'Jo" for some and as "Granny" by her loving family.
There will be no public services or visitation. A private graveside will be held at a later date. Per Josephine's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington, IL, is assisting with cremation arrangements.
