She was born November 7, 1946, to Albert and Florence Gohlinghorst in Marshall, Missouri. On June 16, 1968, Joyce married the love of her life, Roger Reinmann, in Galesburg. She met Roger while attending Illinois State University. Together they had a life full of love and laughter, living in Streator many years before returning to Normal after retirement where they could cheer on the Redbirds and watch their younger grandkids grow.
Joyce dedicated her full career as an elementary teacher serving grade school children with learning disabilities. Most of this time was at her beloved Myrtle Kimes school in Streator where she also got to see both of her first grandchildren go to school. In her very limited spare time, she was in the choir at Park Presbyterian church as well as an active member of PEO, which she continued after her move to Normal.
A first-generation college graduate, she set an example for her children and grandchildren who all credit Joyce with their success and love for reading. Joyce set the bar even higher when she earned her master’s degree later in her career. She was always learning and always teaching.
Joyce treasured her time with Roger and their children, grandchildren, and great grandchild. She had so many cherished friendships, both new and old, and her calendar was always full. She enjoyed traveling, even surviving camping while her children were young. Later, she enjoyed traveling quite extensively with her favorite spots being Door County, Wisconsin and Orange Beach, Alabama. She and Roger put many miles on their bikes that came along with them on so many of their travels.
After retirement her love of gardening grew. She was always excited to see what would come back in spring. Another favorite spring event, she and Roger would celebrate Cubs opening day every year with hot dogs and peanuts.
Joyce leaves to remember her, her two children, Eric Reinmann of Phoenix, Arizona and Sara (Greg) Frankowiak of Bloomington, Illinois; four grandchildren Anna (Matt) Gore, Walker Reinmann, Tyler Frankowiak, and Jaren Frankowiak, one great granddaughter Layla Gore; sister-in-law Nancy Gohlinghorst (Gary), brother-in-law Gary Reinmann (Nancy), nieces and nephews, cousins, and many lifelong friends.
She was preceded by her husband Roger, her parents, and brother Gary Gohlinghorst.
