

Kathryn’s funeral will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Wesley United Methodist Church with Directing Pastor Vaughn Hoffman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral. Her graveside service will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Kathryn was born on March 10, 1917, to Samuel and Nellie Osborn Bates in Redmon, IL. Kathryn went home with a friend, Flo Listy, on a weekend trip and fell in love with Flo’s brother, Thomas L Moore. She married Tom, “Dad” as she fondly called him, on August 14, 1935. He passed on January 26, 1997.
She was preceded in death by six siblings: Beulah Robinson, Charles Bates, Minnie Mae Bates, Herman Bates, Mary Hoesly and Myrtle Frawley.
Kathryn & Thomas had three children, all surviving: Nancy Moore Novacek of Bloomington, Myrna Moore Busick of Seattle, WA and Thomas E (Jane) Moore of Longmont, CO. Also surviving are sisters Ethel Land of El Paso, IL, Cora Nelle (Jerry) Lusher, Bloomington and a brother, Sim (Virginia) Bates of Roanoke, IL.
Kathryn has nine grandchildren: Kimberly Novacek, Sheryl (Robert) Siron, Jim (Jane) Novacek, Carleen (Chris) Walter, Greg (Karen) Busick, Stephanie (Stan) Tran, Stacy Moore, Michele Watkins and Shawn Moore.
Kathryn has 22 great-grandchildren: Derek Novacek, Jessica Siron, Heather (Jake) Varvel, Robbie Siron, Tyler Siron, Katie (Lawrence) Petrey, Becky Novacek, Michael Novacek, Alyssa Attora, Benjamin Busick, Abigail Busick, Madeline Busick, Tyler Tran, Tristan Tran, Travis Tran, Ashley Belcher, Brandee (Brandon) Rutkowski, Dylen Watkins, Ashten Moore, Paige Moore, Michael Moore and Max Moore.
Kathryn has 8 great-great-grandchildren: Lila Siron, Kelsey Siron, Austin Varvel, Andrew Varvel, Makenna Petrey, Braven Rutkowski, Jozlynn Robertson and Jaelynn Robertson. Five generations existed for the past 11 years.
Kathryn worked for Dr. O. L. Ball, Dr. Herman Wellmering and Dr. Wilbur Ball as a medical secretary in downtown Bloomington. She also worked at Westminster Village, Bloomington.
Kathryn loved and enjoyed her family dearly. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomington. Kathryn loved to crochet and made many afghans for presents including the annual family reunion. She loved to work crossword puzzles and listen to big band music. Kathryn’s homemade chicken and noodles, meatloaf and pumpkin pie were favorites of her family.
Kathryn will be greatly missed but her spirit lives on in each of her family members.
Kathryn’s family would like to thank Dr. Sven Klauss, Dr Pramern Sriratna, and Advocate BroMenn Hospice for their excellent care. Also, the family would like to thank the McLean County Nursing Home staff along with her roommate, Melba Wilson, and her many dining friends for the excellent care, love and support these past 2 years. A special thank you to Marie Watkins for styling her hair and nails for many years.
