

Linda Jane Speers, age 82 of Bloomington, IL passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 24, 2025. She was born May 29, 1943 in Jacksonville, IL, to the late Betty (Thorne) Thompson and Thomas (Velma) Hardwick. She married David Speers in Jacksonville, IL on June 6, 1964.
Linda graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1961 and then earned a degree in education from Illinois State University in 1965. She loved her first job in Morton, IL teaching students with impaired hearing before entering motherhood. She studied decorative art before teaching many painting students in her home. Her decorative art adorns many homes. With her husband, and then with friends, she enjoyed traveling the world. She visited six continents and achieved Platinum status with Princess Cruise Line. She enjoyed reading books and read the Bible three times, which supported her strong faith.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband, David, in 2003, her parents, and several canine companions. She is survived by her daughters, Susan Cardamone of Bloomington, IL and Julie (Rick) Thomas of Burlington, WI; grandchildren, Cayla (Matthew) Loveland, Caroline Cardamone, and Robert Thomas. She is further survived by her dear companion Len Oxton (Alton, England), John Cardamone, her sister Mary Thompson, and several friends who appreciated her candor and sense of humor.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
Entombment will be at the East Lawn Mausoleum.
