Margaret “Maggie” I. Curry, 89, of Normal, passed away at 4:55 p.m. on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at Heritage Manor in Normal.
She was born August 25, 1921 in Bloomington, daughter of Edward and Flora Ward Sigler. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Thomas L. Burton.
Surviving are one son, Edward (Karen) Burton of Normal; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one daughter-in-law, Twyla Burton of Phoenix, AZ.
Maggie was a seamstress for Klemm’s and Hall’s Tog Shop, clothing stores in Bloomington and Normal, she worked on the assembly line at the Admiral Plant in Bloomington, was a waitress at Bob Johnson’s Brandtville Restaurant for many years, and was a housekeeper at Illinois State University. Maggie worked in the dorms at ISU and loved interacting with the students and getting to know and “mother” them.
Mom didn’t have an easy life and certainly deserved better. All her grandkids and great-grandkids loved her pies. She was a kind, sweet person and will be missed.
Our family would like to thank all the staff at Heritage Manor in Normal for the eight years of loving and compassionate care given to Mom.
Memorial services will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, February 14, 2011 at East Lawn Funeral Home in Bloomington, where visitation will be one hour prior to services. Mr. Steven Crutcher will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Online condolences may be submitted to www.EastLawn-Bloomington.com.
