Martha “Marty” L. Hamilton, 88, of Bloomington passed away September 12, 2023 at McLean County Nursing Home. She was born July 30, 1935 in Kewanee, IL, to Harlan and Loris (Oberg) Hamilton. Marty married the love of her life, Raymond Standaert on September 17, 1954 in Fort Chaffee, AK.
Marty was in nursing care for most of her life, having started her career right out of high school. She was also an incredibly active figure in her children’s lives; doing everything from participating in Girl Scouts, and Cub Scouts as well as volunteering at her children’s school and at her church to selling Tupperware, and much more. Marty loved to garden and work in the yard in her spare time. She had several flower beds and tended to veggies and fruits on their lot, even in her 70’s. After her children had grown and moved out, Marty made it a point to go and visit her children and grandchildren. For her, care giving was instinct. She and Ray took care of their youngest daughter, Rose and her children, following a brain aneurysm for many years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and wife and will be missed dearly.
Surviving are her loving spouse: Raymond Standaert of Bloomington, IL; 6 children: M. Christine (Bob) Stites of Hopkinsville, KY, Mark (Dorothy) Standaert of Kaukauna, WI, Ramona Chapman of Colorado Springs, CO, Laura Frahm of Bloomington, IL, John (Christina) Standaert of San Diego, CA, Rose Cook of Bloomington, IL; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and 3 siblings: Jim Hamilton of Kewanee, IL, David (Patsy) Hamilton of North Vernon, IN, Jodi (Pete Wallen) Sundberg of Kewanee, IL.
She is preceded in passing by her parents, Harlan and Loris Hamilton; and grandson: Sam Cook.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on September 28, 2023 at the Salvation Army Church, 701 West Washington Street, Bloomington, IL, 61701.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Salvation Army.
