Richard was born October 7, 1948 in Geneva, Illinois. He was the first child to his parents Clifford Anderson and Margaret (Kleinedler) Anderson. He was a long-time resident of Bloomington, Illinois where he settled with his family, raising his children. He later lived in Kansas City, MO, Dallas, TX and Lincoln, NE, before retiring and moving to the Savannah, GA area.
After high school, Richard was going to be drafted by the California Angels MLB team, but instead was drafted by the United States Army. He proudly served from 1967 to 1973. After leaving the military, he was a deputy sheriff for DuPage County, Illinois. He then moved with his former wife and their children to Bloomington, IL working for Bob Evans as a delivery driver, where he worked for many years. Finally, he started his career in sales, where he eventually found his calling in advertising sales. He excelled and was promoted to Kansas City, then Dallas, TX and was eventually transferred to Lincoln, NE, where he ended up retiring at the age of 62.
However, he still wanted to keep busy, so he found enjoyment in over-the-road truck driving and worked for a taxi cab company. When he and his wife finally settled in Savannah, GA he got a kick out of learning the history of Savannah and sharing that history with tourists, driving trolleys.
Richard was a die-hard Chicago Cubs, Bears and Blackhawks fan. He will always be remembered for his quick wit, spirit of adventure and his practical jokes. Throughout his years he was very active in golf, baseball, fishing and coaching his kids sports teams. While living in Kansas City, he also volunteered as a big brother for Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Clifford & Marion Anderson and Margaret Thompson.
Richard is survived by his wife, Karen Anderson of Savannah, GA., daughter Colleen Fuchs (Mark) of Sullivan, MO, son Dennis Anderson (Jennifer) of Bloomington, IL, son Kevin Anderson of Bloomington, IL, step-daughter Korissa Whitford (Erik) of Milford, NE, step-daughter Kaitlyn Geertz of Savannah, GA, step-daughter Maddisen Geertz of Savannah, GA, brother Steve Anderson (Kathy) of Fort Mohave, AZ, sister Cathy Flynn of Compton, IL, brother David Thompson of Lincoln, NE and step-sister Pam Harlip (Tracy) of Carpentersville, IL.
