He was born August 25, 1922 in Owego to Altus and Loretta (Shepard) Lewis. He married Sally Miller on June 24, 1978 in Ottawa, IL. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Delbert, Roy, Leo, Don, Gene and Howard and two sisters, Zella Eyre and Della Robbins.
Surviving is his wife, Sally of Bloomington, three children, Kristy (Jason) Sharpe of Leroy, Dan (Sherry) Lewis of Bloomington and Deb (Tony) Scurio of Michigan and one grandson, Kyle Scurio.
Verne served in the Civilian Conservation Corp and then worked as a Truck Driver for the Teamsters Union Local 26 for many years before retiring from Rowe Constructionin 1984.
A service will be on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 6:00 pm with visitation one hour prior to the service at East Lawn Funeral Home. Cremation will be accorded and entombment of the urn will be at a later date.
