

He was married to his beloved wife, Joan Lady Fike, for 62 years. Born to John Oliver Fike, Sr. and Emma Mary Beyer Fike, William was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Allen, John Jr., and Mary (Ed) Grizzle, and by his daughter-in-law, Linda.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Joan, his children Don and Cindy (Kevin) Kelly, as well as his siblings Eddie (Donna) and Richard, both of Missouri, and Doris (Gary) Patient of Florida.
William dedicated 44 years of his professional life to State Farm Corporate Headquarters in Bloomington, Illinois, where he was a respected and admired colleague. A natural athlete, he played left field for the State Farm Huckleberry’s softball team for over 20 years, earning the admiration of teammates and competitors alike.
William also proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves for 4 years displaying the same dedication and work ethic that marked every part of his life. He was also a member of the American Legion Carl S Martin Post 635.
William was a man of many passions. He was an avid fisherman who knew all the best fishing spots in central Illinois. Additionally, he held a special place in local fishing lore for catching the largest smallmouth bass ever recorded at Lake Evergreen. Several of his trophy fish are now on display at the Bloomington Marina. His love of the outdoors extended to hunting, biking and hiking and he could often be found on the Constitution Trail enjoying the beauty and serenity it provided.
William will be remembered for his kind heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on through those who knew and loved him.
His family would like to thank OSF Hospice for their compassionate care and support in his final days.
A graveside service with military funeral honors is planned for 10:00 am June 20, 2025 at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Bloomington.
