Catherine Elizabeth Curl

Catherine Elizabeth Curl, 95, of Bloomington, passed away Saturday, November 23, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Born February 7, 1924 in Perry County, Indiana, Catherine was the daughter of David Lawrence Clutinger and Irene Frances Donnelly Clutinger. She graduated from Patoka High School in Patoka, Indiana in 1942. During World War II, she was a “Rosie the Riveter” at Briggs in Evansville, Indiana where she riveted the wings on Navy F4U Corsairs. On October 26, 1946, she married Herbert E. Curl in Belleville, Illinois where he was stationed at Scott Field Air Force base. When he was honorably discharged from the Army Air Corps on February 6, 1947, they returned to Evansville, Indiana. They purchased their first home in Owensville, Indiana in 1951 and lived there until 1956 when employment sent Herb to Indianapolis. The couple and their children remained in Indianapolis until 1972 when they moved to a new home they built near New Palestine, Indiana. Their final move to Bloomington was in 1993. Catherine is survived by her husband of 73 years, Herbert; her daughters, Susan Butler (James) of Bloomington and Linda Sundin (Damon) of Carmel, Indiana; five grandchildren, John “Jake” Butler (Amy Sovia), Joseph Butler (Brandi Robertson), Andrew Butler (Mabel Ojeda), Eric Sundin and Jamie Sundin; five great grandchildren Ian Butler, James Butler, Noah Butler, Kasidee Robertson and Hope Robertson. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, David Lawrence Clutinger Jr. Catherine, (“Katie” to her friends and family) was a life long homemaker, mother and grandmother. She loved gardening. Her yard was always filled with flower gardens, most notably her beloved roses. A gathering of friends and family will be held from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. in Day& Deremiah- Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E. 3rd St., Bloomington on Tuesday, November 26th, 2019. Memorial Services will follow at 7 P.M. in Day & Deremiah- Frye Funeral Home with the Rev. Don English officiating. Burial will be on Wednesday morning November 27th , 2019 in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, Indiana.
