Edward J. Mauritson died peacefully on November 23, 2019 in IU Health Hospice House with his family and companion by his side. Ed was the son of Lorenz and Delia (Cumming) Mauritson, born in Queens, NY on August 5, 1930. Ed was retired from the US Air Force after serving 22 years as a Master Sergeant in the flight refueling division in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He then moved to Bloomington where he worked at the IU Physical Plant and Jordan Plant as a maintenance man for 20 years. Ed was a Life Member of the Bloomington VFW and Honorary Life Member of the American Legion Post 18 and Am Vets. He was the Commander of the Bloomington Veterans Honor Guard for 27 years. Ed is survived by his sister; Carol (husband John) Nici, his companion; Diane Richardson, three daughters; Teresa Thissen, Glenda (husband Dick) May and Pam Mauritson, one son; Larry New, two step-daughters; Colleen Kay (husband Jan) Perry and Zina Beth Ann (partner Michele) Mater, two step-sons; Anthony Wayne (wife Glenna) Johnson and Paul Mauritson, and a step-son-in-law; Robert Bastin. He is also survived by six grandchildren; Sara Rose Leffler, David Leffler Jr., Jason New, Alan May, Ben (wife Tiffany) Paulus, Blake (wife Sarah) Paulus, four step-grandchildren; Elizabeth “Liza” Renee Perry, Casidy Mater, Samantha Johnson and Cassidy Johnson, six great-grandchildren; Mykeala Taylor, Aiden New , Sophia New, Everett Paulus, Kaci Paulus, and Holden Paulus, three step-great-granddaughters; Madison Elsabeth Sample, Abigail Rose Sample and Maria Castillo and one step great-grandson; Jordan Castillo. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his step-daughter; Michelle Lynn Bastin, two brothers; John Mauritson and Gottiford Maurtison and one sister; Christina Murphy and a step-granddaughter; Jana Marie Castillo. Friends may call on Saturday, November 30, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. in Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E. Third St., Bloomington, Indiana 47401. The service will include military honors performed by the Monroe County Veterans Honor Guard and the U.S. Air Force.
