Helen Marie (Jolliff) Jenkins was born in Bloomington, IN on March 28, 1928 to Roy and Eschoel Jolliff. She was one of nine children and was the last to survive. Helen grew up in Bloomington her whole life until she retired from General Electric after 22 years. She then moved to Hendricksville where she lived and enjoyed doing the things she loved the most. Since she was an avid lover of the outdoors, Helen spent much of her time camping, fishing, and working in her yard. Christmas was a special time for her and she loved sharing it with all her kids and grandkids. Everyone was welcome in her home. Her house and yard was always adorned with Christmas cheer and lights. Helen’s greatest love was her family and beloved dog, Shawn. Her tender heart for animals made watching Dr. Pol her favorite TV show and she never missed an episode. Words often used to describe her included; feisty, sassy, and independent. You always knew where you stood with her.
Helen was the loving mother of 4 daughters, Carol Joan Whaley (James) of Solsberry, Karen Lynn Combs of Bloomington, Donna Marie Halstead of Ellettsville, and Vicki Lee Hunter (deceased). She had 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-great grandchild.
She is preceded in death by both parents, one daughter, Vicki Lee Hunter; one granddaughter, Beth Ann Hamblen; and one son-in-law, Jack Lee Halstead.
There will be a Gathering of Family and Friends on Thursday, October 29, 2020 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in Deremaih-Frye Mortuary, 700 W Gourley Pike. Funeral Services are scheduled for Friday, October 30, 2020 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home with Pastor Steve Von Bokern officiating; mausoleum entombment will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
