Joseph "Joe" L. Whitaker

Joseph “Joe” L. Whitaker, 87, of Bloomington, IN passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2017, after a brief illness. He was born September 14, 1929 the son of the late Alton B. Whitaker and L. Mabel Whitaker.

Joe was an Army Veteran. He enjoyed playing cards, his family reunions, and spending time with his beloved family and friends. He will be deeply missed.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Maxine Porter Whitaker; his daughter, Karen Becker; his son, Raymond Whitaker and his wife Toni; step-children, Carol Chambers and her husband Phillip, Debbie Erwin and her husband Rick, Linda Cissell and her husband Don, and Mark Smythe and his wife Tanya; fifteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many other beloved family members.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris McNabb Whitaker, and two brothers, Alton “Junior” and Andy Whitaker.

Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Deremiah-Frye Mortuary Greene & Harrell Chapel, officiated by Pastor Ron Hawkins. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
