

Rathmial “Ralph” Lee Phillips, 91 of Bloomington died Friday, August 4, 2017 in I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital. He was born May 8, 1926 in Wayne County, Kentucky to Logan W. Phillips and Bessie Thompson Phillips. He had worked in many stone mills for over 40 years and retired from Bybee Stone Mill.
Survivors include two sons, Cecil (Edna) Phillips and Keith (Pam) Phillips both of Springville; three daughters, Debbie Taylor of Martinsville, Janie (Bill Goveia) Powell and Dee Dee (Donnie) Mullis both of Bloomington; 15 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Ruth Anna Russell and Judy Phillips; a daughter, Wilma Mynatt; a grandson, Greg Phillips; two brothers, Coy and Cordis; and two sisters, Elvena and Ludy Jane.
Ralph was a great man who was funny and always put a smile on those around him. He had worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps during the depression; was a former Golden Gloves Boxing Champion; and enjoyed hunting for Ginseng and Mushrooms, fishing, camping, and square dancing.
There will be a Private Memorial Service at a later date. Interment will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens. Arrangements have been entrusted to Deremiah-Frye Mortuary, Greene & Harrell Chapel.
