Andrew “Andy” Phillip Calderone, 97, of Delray Beach, Florida passed away at home on Thursday, June 9th. In death, he joyfully reunites with his wife, Rosemary Valere Calderone, of 59 years; his brother Lawrence Calderone and Lawrence’s wife Delores; his sister Sally Wells; and his sister Roseanne Foster and her husband Nelson. In life, he leaves behind one sister, Ann Schulte and her husband Norman; Andy’s four children with Rosemary: Mary Calderone, Linda Anderson and her husband AJ, Phillip Calderone, and Mark Calderone; one grandchild, Mia Stender and her husband Sam Stender; and one great grandchild, Irene Stender.
Andy was proud of his service in the Navy during WWII; he joined at 17 and served on the European and Pacific fronts. He loved his career traveling around the country as a truck driver, closing out his big rig time transporting components of the space shuttles for NASA then later coming out of retirement to drive for Enterprise, bringing out-of-town astronauts to the flight line for launch.
Maybe Andy’s favorite chapter of life was spent living in an RV alongside Rosemary and their cat, revisiting all of his haunts as a professional driver and hitting a lot of new, more scenic stops all over the continental 48 states.
Andy’s friends and family enjoyed all the wonderful Italian food he prepared over the years, lovingly and often deposited directly from the oven into containers to take home, already labeled for the freezer — the future meal he knew you would need. He loved all kinds of animals and they especially loved him back for that same cooking that occasionally made its way off the table to an enthusiastic dog or two.
Just last year, Andy was able to meet his very first great-grandchild, Irene. He was excited to know that another was on the way in November.
A visitation for Andrew will be held Monday, June 20, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Babione Funeral Home, 10060 Calle Comercio Drive, Boca Raton, FL 33428. A committal service will occur Thursday, June 23, 2022 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 State Road 7, Lake Worth, FL 33449.
