

Genneken, Arlene Sandra, born June 26, 1939 and passed from this life July 23rd, 2010. Arlene was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was a veteran educator in the Broward County School District for more than 30 years. Arlene received her Master's of Education at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, FL. She was a dedicated Kindergarten teacher at Zion Lutheran Christian School for 18 years and her final years of service were with Deerfield Beach Elementary School. Arlene retired from teaching but realized the classroom is where she needed to be and returned to Deerfield Beach Elementary as a well sought after substitue teacher. She finally retired for the 2nd time just a few years ago. Arlene was instrumental in many educational programs including a nationally honored reading program called Book It, while at Deerfield Beach Elementary and her work even extended outside of the classroom by participating and heading up a fundraising program to install a new playground for the elementary students at Zion Lutheran. Arlene was nominated by peers, parents and administration for Teacher of Year several times and won recognition in 1997 from Deerfield Beach Elementary School and in 1998 from Broward County Public Schools as Teacher of the Year. Arlene is survived by her husband of nearly 52 years, James M. Genneken; children James Genneken, wife Carol, Donna Hageman, husband Leon, Karen Genneken, husband Bob Ohlemann and Linda Genneken Chapa, husband Ozzie; grandchildren Bryan Genneken, wife Anna and Kyle Genneken, fiance Melaney Trimble; brothers, Allen Ruth, wife Ellen and Marc Ruth, wife Monica; brother-in-law, Bill Nihart; and sisters-in-law, Mary Ruth and Jeanne Perry; along with many nephews, nieces and cousins.
