
Carmen Grosskopf, a loving mother, grandmother, and creative soul, passed away on December 2, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on September 29, 1943, in the Bronx, NY. Carmen’s vibrant spirit and artistic talents left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Carmen was a passionate artist who found immense joy in painting and creating. She loved to bring sweetness and warmth to every gathering through her culinary delights and was affectionately known as the family’s “flan maker”. Her devotion to her family shined brightly in her relationships with her two daughters, Michele Durand and Yvonne McEwen; her son-in-law, Terry McEwen; her daughter-in-love, Mari Rodriguez; and her cherished grandsons, Taylor, Tanner, and Trace McEwen. Carmen is also survived by her beloved siblings, Millie Gonzalez, Marti Castro, Cindy Stewart, and Winn Castro, who shared in her love and laughter.
Carmen had a profound love for nature and animals, generously donating to the Humane Society and enjoying many years of breeding cats. She was also dedicated to supporting the Police Benevolent Association. Her compassion extended far beyond her family, as she touched the hearts of many in her community.
In addition to her artistic pursuits, Carmen was a skilled secretary in her younger years and enjoyed working alongside her husband, John, at their flea market business. Later, she also contributed her talents at the Sarasota/Bradenton Herald Newspaper. These experiences enriched her life and showcased her hard work and dedication.
For nearly nine years, Carmen resided in a skilled nursing facility, where her devoted daughter Michele was a constant presence, ensuring her mother’s daily needs and comforts were met. During this time, Carmen formed meaningful connections with the CNAs, Administration, Therapists, Activities Director, and Nurses, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who cared for her. Her warmth and spirit will be greatly missed by this caring community.
Carmen found joy in life’s simple pleasures, from savoring her favorite meals to coloring, reading magazines, and tackling workbooks. Her zest for life was evident in all that she did.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Grosskopf, her parents, Robert and Carmen Castro; and her brother, Robert (Tato) Castro. Each of these relationships shaped Carmen’s life and her enduring love for family.
As we celebrate Carmen’s life, we remember her creativity, her unwavering love for family, and her compassionate heart. She leaves behind a vibrant legacy of kindness that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to share in her life. Rest in peace, dear Carmen, your spirit will forever reside in our hearts.
A committal service will be held at South Florida National Cemetery, located at 6501 State Rd 7, Lake Worth, Florida. The service is scheduled for December 16, 2025, from 10:30 am to 11:00 am.
