She is survived by her son Patrick (Shanon) Youssef, and her grandchildren Tyler, Melody and Kyle and many nieces and nephews.
Carolyn was predeceased by her loving husband Art, and son Andrew.
Carolyn, a lifelong learner, enjoyed spending time with her extended friends and family, hearing about how they were doing in school, and sharing her love for music (she was an incredible piano player), sports (figure skating and ice hockey), family history, and reading/books. She took it as her mission and pleasure to share interesting bits of information she saw on the internet with friends and family.
Mom, having graduated from University of Toronto with a Bachelors Degree in Library Science, began her career helping adults and children read through various literacy programs she developed while a librarian in the Scarborough Public Library. It was here that she met Dad, her own Omar Sharif, they were married over 50 years. In the early 80’s, Mom and Dad moved to California and opened up their own retail perfume business, where she was passionate about connecting people with perfume they loved both new and old. After retiring from the perfume business, and with the advent of the internet, she became enthralled in learning and sharing with this new incredible medium. I still have about a thousand emails from her. She moved to Florida to be close with her grandchildren in 2015. While in a senior living community, she would be selected as the resident spokesperson, advocating for improved lifestyle, messaging, communication and information for seniors who had memory issues.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Reading is Fundamental (www.rif.org), a cause near and dear to Carolyn’s heart.
