To Carole, Kathy, Camille and the entire family my heartfelt condolences. Words cannot express my sadness in the passing of Derrick, we often spoke about meeting up at camp meeting, and he bringing me some Julie mangos, and how much he misses Southern New England Conference. For years my name was Stacey’s mom, Derrick was a junior Sabbath School teacher at Northboro SDA  church and developed a relationship with his students, who to this day speak highly of uncle Derrick . May you find comfort in knowing that he has made a positive impact on the lives of many. May his soul RIP, until that “Great Getting Up Morning”. ..Marsil Bennett.

Derrick Jones was my very dear friend. I knew him for over sixty years. Derrick and I went to the same high school. We graduated together from Kingsway High School in Kingston, Jamaica. In his high school days he was very mischievous. He would give names to other students and high school staff based on their physical appearance or their personality traits. To this day some of those people are still called by the names Derrick gave them. 

Derrick  was fun to be around. He loved to laugh and have a good time.  His favorite meal at lunch time was a couple Jamaican beef pies, and his favorite fruit was mango.  

Both Derrick and I emigrated to the United States - he to Massachusetts and I to Washington, D.C.  Although we lived miles apart, we never lost touch with one another. Eventually, Derrick relocated to Florida. He told me that one of his reasons for moving to Florida was that there were plenty of mangoes in Florida. For many years, he would send me a box of mangoes during the mango season. 

Derrick was very devoted to his wife and his two daughters. He was a very faithful Seventh Day Adventist Christian and was guided by his religious beliefs in every aspect of his life. I misss my dear friend, but I am confident that if I am as faithful to my God as he was, I will see him again on that great getting-up morning. So, good night my friend and sleep well; until we meet again.

Growing up, I didn’t know many kids whose godparents were as present as mine—never missing a beat, no matter where they were or what was happening. Uncle D was the exception. He and Auntie Petty made every milestone feel like a grand celebration, no moment too small, no distance too great. Every achievement, every big step, they were there. And somehow, there was always a mango involved, as we usually saw each other in that season—sweet, familiar, a taste of home no matter where life took me.

Uncle D wasn’t just present; he was intentional. I still have the letters, the cards, the small notes filled with love and encouragement—reminders that Florida was never too far, that I was never alone. From the time I was a little girl, I always wanted to be a doctor and work in maternal health, and he never let me forget that dream. He carried it with me, reminding me with every conversation that my goals weren’t just wishes but promises I had made to myself. And when I started my doctorate, he was still my biggest cheerleader, always reminding me that I was capable, brilliant, and that I had a village behind me.

I wish we had talked more. I wish I could hear his voice just one more time, telling me how proud he was. But I carry his love with me. In every step I take, in every success, in every quiet moment of reflection, I know he would want me to go on for him, and for that, I am forever grateful.

Dear Jones family,

Fernando and I want to express our deepest condolences on the sudden passing of your Dad and our dear friend, Derrick. We are so sorry for your loss. We pray that you will be comforted with the great memories you have, as well as, the hope we have in Jesus!

I cannot forget how kind Derrick was to our family and the church family at Northboro. He treated us with gifts of mangoes so often. Every one at church received these treats. 

In addition, when my mother was alive and lived with my sister in Miami, he and your Mom would visit when they could, and bring gifts of water coconut, mango, etc. She and my sister enjoyed these thoughtful gifts and visits  immensely. Occasionally, I would be there for a visit and was able to enjoy their visits and gifts as well.

We will miss him very much and we look forward to the day when Jesus comes and we will see him again. He certainly lived what he believed.

Derrick was one of the kindest from Lancaster, and Shrewsbury you want to meet but not so kind at Saturday night board meeting for a game of dominoes. None of us have good answers as to why but I can share with the blessed hope of comfort in the Lord's promise.  Jesus is coming as promised. With love and blessings for all who are grieving today.

Uncle Derrick was a good man. He was loving, reliable and always ready to stand by us, no matter what. His presence and love will be missed. We love you, Uncle Derrick.

Derrick Jones, the most God fearing man I Know, the hard working man, the understanding man, the honest man, a free-spirited young man, a gentleman, an intelligent man, a respectful man, a hearting soul, a married man, a family man, a good father, brother, my uncle. A great friend. How can one man wear so many hats. Maybe because he was a bald head man (just kidding). Uncle Derrick and Auntie Carol would laugh at that. And what is a man without a good woman beside him. Auntie Carol you are a true queen, an avid philanthropist. To see two people live in love l, so synchronized for so many years. That’s not just a good strong marriage, It’s just a beautiful thing. 
I am Grateful and Honored to pay my respects to a good man and I will try to emulate these life jewels you’ve given me in my life, so I that I can be the real man you wanted me to be in this world. 
Uncle Derrick I am going to miss you, but anyone who knows you, knows you will be watching over your whole family. From immediate family, to extended family. We are all Family. One real  walk with God now uncle. Until we meet again. Walk Good Bredda.

Derrick Jones was one of the most impactful male figures in my life. He was a constant source of love, guidance, and encouragement, always standing by our family and motivating us to be our best. His compassion, understanding, and the stories he shared with me, will forever be cherished. This loss is one of the hardest I’ve faced, but I find comfort in knowing that I’ve gained an angel who will continue to watch over us. Love you uncle.

To know my Uncle Derrick is to love him. His selflessness was embedded in him. Even if you didn’t ask he had something to give. Not only in a materialistic sense, but a listening ear or a good laugh. If I knew that the last time I saw him would truly be the last, I would’ve hugged him just a little tighter. He will truly be missed, but never forgotten. And I find peace in knowing that he will be watching over everyone that loved him dearly. Love you uncle!

Uncle Derrick and I have a special relationship. He would always say, Steve, you’re the first person to call for everything and even more happy to just know he’ll be hearing from me.  No matter what it was, he would always demand paying me for my services. No matter how much I would decline. He was a loving and giving man. The last time I saw uncle Derrick, was early December, when mangos were barely in Blume. I got my hand on some hairy mango, and I made it my mission to drive all the way to uncle Derrick because I know he would love nothing more than to have some mangoes. The smile that was plastered across his face, his excitement , the gratitude he showed. That was the last time we shared a hug. Uncle Derrick will be greatly missed. I find comfort in knowing that by God’s grace, one day we will see each other again on the sea of glass.

Uncle Derrick is the most genuine, kindhearted and loving man that anyone can encounter. Since we were just little girls, Uncle Derrick and Aunty Carole nurtured us and welcomed us with open arms, very diligently molding us into the young ladies that we are destined to be. Every weekend, they would gather us up as we prepared for sabbath and church at Eliathah. It’s easy to recognize now that they were more than aunts and uncles to us, but truly more like parents. Uncle Derrick would call us his “sweet tomatoes”; as young girls, you can only imagine the rolling of eyes from embarrassment. But today, we truly appreciate the love and passion that he portrayed to us. Both Uncle Derrick and Aunty Carole ensured that we experienced so much of the little things in life. They spent their time ensuring that we were comfortable, that we belonged, and they taught us how to appreciate it all. Uncle Derrick spoiled us the most, giving us all that we asked for, slyly so that aunty Carole wouldn’t know. They ensured that we were included in everything. Every birthday, we got to decide where we would like to go and eat to celebrate. The Jones house was our home, away from home and most of our first experiences were with them. Uncle Derrick was truly a loving man, he was always easy going, never fusses about anything, except his mangoes; everyone knew those were off limits. We have endless memories of uncle Derrick, all of which will forever remain in our hearts forever.

Derrick Jones. God truly designed that man and blessed earth with him to display a man of greatness. Someone with the warmest heart, purest intentions, a legacy of kindness, the most brightest and welcoming smile, and an unwavering example of faith that was surely spread among each and everyone he encountered. We remember him as a devoted husband, a constant and supportive figure, and a man that modeled so much grace, love, and resilience that anyone can endure. 

We are truly blessed to have witnessed uncle Derrick’s walk here on earth. It was filled with nothing less than eminence and we will forever love and miss him.

I have known Derrick since he was a 19 year old handsome young man, working as a sectary in south camp. We have grown to know each other everyday. He was a kind and loving person. He thinks about everyone and will go to the end of the world for them, just like his father. 
He is a faithful man of God and I know his soul is resting in Jesus’s  bossom. I love and miss him dearly, but I find comfort in knowing that God loves him more.

Sincere Condolences to the Jones family. So sad he never made it back to attend SNE Camp meeting. One of the things they enjoyed and looked forward to in the summer, but was unable to get away these last few years. Look to Happy Heavenly Camp Meeting Derrick. RIP my friend.

My Dear Sisters--I don't have the words!

I  just heard the sad news from my mom. If my heart is breaking, then I'm sure that both of you are not in a good way right now. 
For that, I'm truly sorry for your loss...our loss.

 When we were kids practically every Jamaican our parents knew, was family to a certain degree. Yet, your father was who I considered to be my second father. In the real sense of how a dad should be. 
I could talk to him about anything. In fact, some of our political discussions were quite "robust" 😁, but despite the age gap, as I grew up and became a parent, we became even closer friends over the years.  He would insist every time we spoke that I call him Derek, but I just couldn't do it!  "Sorry Mr. Jones--that's not gonna happen".

Very few people who aren't your parents can influence your life as a child and as an adult. Both of your parents have influenced mine greatly. He was a very loving and caring man. Just a true gentleman. Forgive me for preaching to the choir...you guys already know that!

In short, I love you Kathy & Camille. It's a really sad day for all of us who know him. I wish you as much peace as you can possibly have at a time like this.

Words can not express how sad I am at the loss of my beloved Uncle. 
Thank you Uncle for being a great example to me by being a hard worker, great family man and faithful Christian .. my earliest memories of you is worship🤭.. I knew when I visited we would have to do worship. It was not until my adulthood did I realize how important those moments were.. I wish I stayed in contact more but I am sure he knew I loved him and I will always keep my nick name he gave me “Jo-vay” close to my heart  (he was the only one allowed to call me that)..  I will try to be with my family more now that it hit me more than ever how short our lives are .. R.I.P  my uncle I am content in knowing that your commitment to the SDA religion guarantees you will reap the benefits in heaven.. love you until we meet again .. your Jo-vay
