Gloria E. Luciano 1935-2021 Gloria Elaine Luciano, age 85, passed away on January 19, 2021. Gloria, also lovingly known by her 3 sons and grandchildren as Glo, Grammie and Nammie was born June 15, 1935 in Boston, MA and adopted by her loving parents Ruby and Willard Callender. Gloria attended Somerville High School and on October 24, 1954 married the love of her life John Anthony Luciano. Gloria met Johnny at Gorrin’s Department Store in Davis Square Somerville. Gloria worked upstairs and Johnny worked downstairs. Johnny strolled upstairs his first week and met his life partner instantly. Gloria spent many years working for an insurance agent in Medford Square. Coworkers and family will tell you she was an extremely dedicated and hard worker always with a smile on her face. She was never afraid of grabbing a snow shovel or working in the yard in the hot sun. Gloria was a very proud Mom and Grandmother. She and Johnny had 3 sons Jackie, Jimmy and Chuckie. She is survived by daughter in laws Cindy Marie Luciano, Katy Luciano and 3 nieces, Jaynie Fiore (Labadini) and Kathy and Anne Callender. Also, two nephews Bobby Labadini and Peter Callender. Also surviving Gloria is her brother Willard Callender and sister in laws Beverly Callender and Caroline Labadini (Luciano) and cousins Benjamin Caggiano, Hal Turner and Woody Wood. She is also survived by the Peckman and Wood families in Plymouth, MA along with 101 year old Aunt Helen Wood. There was nothing more important to Gloria than her family.
In the early years, summers were spent with the entire family, grandparents, aunts and uncles on Little Squam Lake in Holderness, NH. Big BBQ’s and Italian feasts were Gloria’s specialties. We won’t ever forget her Sunday gravy, veal scallopini, Chicken oreganata, linguini and clam sauce and of course, chicken bianco.
In the later years summers were spent at the Golden Nugget in Miami Beach. Gloria would be working on the deepest and darkest tan of the entire gang. Nobody came close. She was an active Mom participating in swimming, ice skating, snow skiing, water skiing as a trio with Jim and Chuck, and tobogganing. The day trips to Nahant Beach, Revere Beach, Good Harbor Beach and Humarock Beach with a quick stop along the way at LaCascia’s Bakery or Kelly’s Roast Beef will never be forgotten. Visiting these places to be with close friends was priceless to our family.
Gloria adored her 4 grandchildren, Kara Vinciulla (Luciano), Genna Luciano, Charlie Luciano, Grace Luciano and 8 year old great grandson, Dean Vinciulla. She spent countless hours with them and loved every minute of it, from swimming in the pool to walks around the lake, Disney World and everyone’s favorite Sunday gravy dinner. We rarely went to the North End because it was in our kitchen. She was taught by the best… Nanna Luciano.
Gloria was a devout catholic and loved the Lord. She attended St. Jude Catholic Church with the family on a regular basis and was very proud of her Eucharistic Minister, Johnny.
