

James "Jim" Joseph Cohee, 83 of Boca Raton passed away on July 24th, 2018. Jim was born on June 9, 1935 in Jenkintown PA to parents George and Gertrude Cohee along with his older sister Joan and older brother George. Jim was known as "Jimmy" as a young boy and was the friendliest child in the neighborhood walking around town with his dog Teddy. He attended Cornell University in 1953, served in the US Army for 2 years, and graduated in 1960 with a degree in hotel management. He worked in New York City for a couple of years, and then managed hotels around the country working with Stouffer's Hotels. He ended up in Fort Lauderdale at the Anacapri Inn where he met Barbara Haverman. They married in 1967 and Jim quickly adopted Barbara's two children Jeff and Teri and the family grew with Michael, Jennifer, and Steven. They moved to St. Louis and Denver before settling in Delray Beach in 1976, where Jim became the Vice President of the prestigious Boca Raton Hotel & Club. In 1980 he was promoted to President of the up and coming Boca West community. In 1984, Jim lead an investment team in purchasing the Indies Inn resort in Duck Key, which he renovated and renamed Hawks Cay Resort. In 1988, he started the Assets Development Group as a consultant for hotels and resorts around the country including the TPC at Sawgrass and working with Arnold Palmer developing Isleworth in Orlando.
He retired in 2000. Jim's proudest accomplishments are his family and he and Barb made a selfless decision in the early 90's to raise their 3 grandchildren Amanda, Maryann and Jeannie. They provided, supported and cared for these girls for many years. Jim lost his beloved wife Barbara in 2003 and committed himself to serve the community by volunteering at the Caring Kitchen and caring for his grandson Adam who shares his birthday. Jim supported, encouraged and raised his five children and his legacy lives on through them, his 8 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. He struggled with Alzheimer's disease for 10 years before it sent him to heaven. Jim was a son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather, father-in-law and friend. As a faithful Catholic servant to Christ, he served his family, friends and community as long as he possibly could and all who knew him will dearly miss him. In lieu of flowers donations to the following would be appreciated by the family.
