

She was born on May 15, 1941, in Bogotá, Colombia, where she grew up and later graduated from the National University of Colombia in 1964 with a degree in Economic Sciences.
María Elisa began her career as a Financial Analyst in the Budgetary Department of the Treasury of Colombia. In 1971, she relocated to Detroit, Michigan, following her husband Gustavo’s work transfer.
Throughout her life, María Elisa remained active and deeply engaged with the people and activities she loved. She treasured time with her family, enjoyed playing tennis at Patch Reef Tennis Center since its opening, and stayed busy with her favorite hobbies and crafts. She had a gift for friendship and connection, cherishing countless moments of laughter and sharing memories with her longtime friends.
A special mention goes to “Las Nenas,” a cherished group of Latin ladies who gathered monthly for over 40 years. Their annual Christmas celebrations, often hosted by María Elisa, were especially meaningful and filled with joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fidel and Ana Georgina, and her daughter, Vivian Andrea.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Gustavo; her son, Gustavo Jr.; her daughter-in-law, Nuria; and her beloved grandchildren, Alexis, Kristina, and Nicolas.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the FAU Clinic, Boca Raton Regional Hospital, Lynn Cancer Institute, and VITAS Healthcare for the care and compassion shown during her final days.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on April 11, 2026, at Babione-Kraeer Funeral Home, located at 1100 N. Federal Highway, Boca Raton, Florida 33432 from 11am - 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
