Today, we gather to celebrate the life of Mauricio Mejia, affectionately known as Canelo. Born in El Salvador, Mauricio faced life's challenges with resilience and unwavering determination. At just 15, he was drafted into the military, a decision he made to protect his brothers from the same fate. This spirit of sacrifice led him to flee to America in search of a better future.

In New York, Mauricio met Rosa, his lifelong partner, and together they built a beautiful family, welcoming Katherine, Jonathan, Jason, and Karina. A devoted husband and father, he worked tirelessly as a certified mechanic, eventually opening Maurice Auto Repair in Florida. His incredible work ethic and ambition were fueled by a deep love for his family; he dedicated himself to providing them with opportunities he never had.

Mauricio’s character was defined by kindness, humor, and an indomitable spirit. He was a gifted dancer, sharing many joyous moments with Rosa on the dance floor, winning competitions and creating cherished memories. His compassion extended to his community, where he was known for his generosity and charitable heart.

He imparted invaluable lessons to his children—working hard, being honest, and always striving to be three steps ahead. Mauricio believed that true success comes from surrounding oneself with uplifting people and learning from those who inspire us.

He will be remembered as a great father who, despite his long hours, made every moment spent with family truly special. As we honor Mauricio’s life, let us carry forward his legacy of love, integrity, and hard work.
