Norma Blakely Prentice, 92, of Boca Raton, journeyed peacefully onward on June 9, 2016 from the comfort of her own home overlooking the ocean. Born on January 12, 1924 in Joliet, Illinois, she was the youngest daughter of Florence and King Salle. She married George O. Blakely in 1954 and moved to Pompano Beach where, after the death of her husband, she became President of Blakely’s Department Stores.
Over the course of 60 years she enjoyed being a member of the Daughters of the King, the Altar Guild, Boca Delray Music Society, the Boca Raton Historical Society, the Boca Raton Art Institute, and the Boca Raton Resort and Country Club. She volunteered for the Boca Pops and served as President of the Upsilon Theta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. Norma was included in the 1974-1975 issue of Who’s Who of American Women. A lover of mountains, she savored summers at her second home in Cashiers, NC for 30 years. A beloved and active member of St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church of Boca Raton, Norma will be remembered as a devout and faith-filled philanthropist with a loving and generous spirit. To the delight of those who knew her, Norma always displayed magnificent elegance and grace, loved to host parties, and deeply cherished her family, friends, and God.
Norma is survived by her daughter Billie Fischer (Steven), step-daughters Jill Ward (Bill) and Lindsay Bisset, grandchildren Jason Fischer (Sunny) and Alexa Fischer (Robert LaPorta), step-grandson Joe Srebalus (Sara), four great-grandsons Ian and Elio LaPorta, and Xavier and Kingston Fischer, and one step-great-grandson Quintin Srebalus. The family wishes to thank Norma’s devoted caregivers, Mima Soria and Claire Davis.
