Roland was born on September 11, 1965 to Theresa M. (D’Angelo) Fero and Russell Berkley Fero of Penn Hills, PA. After graduating from Penn Hills High School in 1983, he went on to study Civil and Mechanical Engineering at Community College of Allegheny County, Boyce Campus and Point Park University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
He worked as an engineer for several years before finding his lifelong career as a carpenter, a career change spurred by his desire to “actually build stuff” instead of having to “watch other guys do the fun part.” Roland was a proud member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 432, and had recently retired to travel the country and fish in the oceans full-time. He was also a long-time member of the Pitcairn-Monroeville Sportsmen’s Club.
Roland was predeceased by his parents, Theresa and Russell, as well as a brother, Scott Fero. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Hart, and his four children: Margaret A. “Maggie” Fero (Andrew W. Harris), Emily L. Fero, Roslyn Berkley “Rozie” Fero, and Isabella H. “Bella” Fero; sister, Lynn Fero (Matt Cimber); and twin brother Paul G. Fero.
His family will respect his wishes by not holding funeral services, but a Zoom memorial will be held February 20, 3pm EST.
