Billy Benton

Mr. Benton was born in Ash, N.C. on October 16, 1939 and was the son of the late Sisrow and Luella Lee Benton. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Lloyd McCowan, Willard McCowan, Homer Benton, Lacy Benton, and a sister Gladys Taylor. He was a retired locomotive engineer from CSX Railroad. He was a US Army Veteran and an avid fisherman.

Mr. Benton is survived by three children Sheila Benton Burton and husband Randy of Wilmington, N.C., Bobby Newman Benton of Scotts Hill, and Donna West of Wilmington. Grandchildren are Charles, Jennifer, Casey, Sarah, Alex, John, Melissa, and Joshua. Great-grandchildren are Lyla, Ricky, McKenzie, and Emily. One sister, Leona Tripp of Ash, N.C.

A special thank you to Mr. J.E. Carlyle for being a lifelong friend for over 70 years. We would like to thank the doctors and staff from NHRMC ICU for the wonderful care they provided to our father.

Mr. Benton will lie in state at his residence 3995 Scotts Hill Loop Rd. Scotts Hill on Wednesday March 4, 2015 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
