He was born in Cumberland County on March 23, 1943 the son of the late, Thomas Cleveland Thornton and Bertha Thomas Thornton and was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Thornton.
Surviving are a son, Clarence "TJ" Edward Thornton, Jr. and his wife, Allison of Supply; a brother, Lawrence Thornton of Fayetteville, NC; three grandchildren, Brittany Thornton, Peyton Workman, Khloe Workman and Nicholas Thornton.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
