Born on September 5, 1954, to Cecil Jess Goodman and Sarah Rebecca Sosbee McCook Goodman in Pine Bluff, Ark., Cynda never knew the meaning of quit. She fought an uphill battle with her health her entire life, but she lived her life on her terms in her own beloved home. Cynda was a fighter until the very end.
She fought most fiercely for her two kids, Corey and Lauren. They were her entire world until she became a devoted “G” to her grandbabies.
In her professional life, Cynda managed the local Pizza Hut, sold Avon, was a dietary cook at the local hospital, and managed the office at the local Brunswick Co-Op. She enjoyed making people smile, helping out, and meeting people through her multiple jobs. She was proud of her work ethic and ability to provide for her own kids, and her informally adopted kids, Brittany, Cassie, and many more.
Cynda had a fantastic sense of humor and a beautiful laugh. Her wit was sharp, and you never knew what she was going to say! Cynda was kind and generous and always kept her door open for anyone who needed a warm meal and a place to stay.
Cynda was preceded in death by her parents, as well as brothers Lyle “Mack” McCook (Kathy), Richard Allen Goodman (Cindy), Roger Michael Goodman (Betty), and a sweet heavenly grandchild.
She is survived by brother Jeffrey Scott Goodman (Cathy), son Corey James Holden (Bethany), daughter Lauren Holden Shackelford (Theron), and grandchildren Brayden Marshall Holden and Caydence Jane Holden. She is also survived by nephews Ernie McCook (Beth), Michael Layfield (Melanie), Scott Goodman (Desiree), and many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews whom she loved proudly and dearly.
Funeral services will be held at White Funeral and Cremation Service in Bolivia, NC (603 Ocean HWY East, Bolivia, NC 28422) on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at 5 p.m., followed by cremation. Rev. Kelly Gabriele will officiate. A visitation will precede the service from 4 to 5 p.m.
Cynda’s family wishes to extend sincere thanks to so many people, specifically the many doctors and nurses at Grand Strand Regional Hospital for taking excellent care of her, Tikila Morgan at Brunswick Senior Resources, SC House Calls, Laurie and Christina with Ray of Help Home Health in Myrtle Beach, Tina with Home Instead Myrtle Beach, and the amazing EMS and firefighters of Horry and Brunswick Counties.
A special thanks to Jenny Bradley for the care and love given to Cynda and her animals over the years and to her Holden in-laws, who were always such a support to her and her children. Lastly, we want to thank everyone who has prayed and supported Cynda and her family during this difficult time. Our hearts are so full of gratitude for the outpouring of love we have received.
Cynda will be desperately missed by those left here to carry on her legacy. Our hearts are broken by this sudden loss. Cynda was one-of-a-kind. To be loved by her was to be truly blessed.
