

Richard Frederick Sim Sr., SSgt. US Marine Corps Retired, age 85, of Wilmington, formerly of Boiling Springs Lakes, passed away in the care of Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Wilmington, N.C. October 25, 2016.
Mr. Sim was born April 4, 1931 in Chicago, IL, son of the late Frederick and Gertrude Appel Sim. He was a Retired US Marine Corps veteran of 20 years serving in the Korean War during which time he was a member of the “Chosin Few” and also serving in the Vietnam War for several tours of duty. He concluded his service in 1967 at Camp Lejeune, N.C. He was an active member of the Marine Corps League, Cape Fear Detachment.
Richard was a loving husband and father to his children, sharing his life experiences with them throughout their live’s. He was deeply loved and will never be forgotten. He was a long time member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Southport, N.C. “May he rest in eternal peace.”
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jeanetta Knee Sim, daughter Elizabeth Creek and husband, Ronald and children Heather and husband Paul, Christopher and Hunter, and great-grandchild, Ada, daughter Cathy Sim and daughter Kelly Sim and great-grandchild, Owen, daughter Mary Rowe and husband Brad and children Ashlie and Melissa, son Richard Sim, Jr. and wife Angie and step-grandchildren Kahner and Korbin Ballew; sister Lois Jean Bumgardner of Chicago, IL.
A graveside funeral service will be held Friday October 28, 2016 at 1 o’clock in the afternoon at Cape Fear Memorial Park 4811 Southport-Supply Rd. Southport, N.C. with full military honors.
