Ruby Milliken Rose

Ruby Estelle Milliken Rose, age 90 of Ocean Isle Beach, and formerly of Durham, NC passed away on Sunday the twenty sixth of August 2018 in the SECU Lower Cape Fear Hospices’ Brunswick Care Center, Bolivia, NC.

Born in Brunswick County, NC on the twenty eighth of February 1928 she was a daughter of the late Levi and Katy Conway Milliken. After high school she moved to Durham and soon thereafter met the love of her life on a blind date. She began a longtime career with Duke University where she later retired. Her hobbies included quilting, gardening and crocheting. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her soulmate, Winfred Dallas Rose, a son, Winfred Earl Rose, and siblings, Earl Milliken, Dempsey Milliken and Mary Bozeman. Ruby and Winfred were married for sixty-nine years and treated each other like royalty.

Survivors include a son, Charlie Lee Rose of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; a daughter, Cheryl Rose Murphy and husband Harvey of Mebane, NC; a granddaughter, Heather Pearce Lewis; great-granddaughter, Meriwether Lewis both of Carrboro, NC; a sister, Ann Hobbs of Roxboro, NC; many nieces and nephews and her faithful guard dog, “Snoops” and feline buddy, “Jordan”.

A private celebration of life will be conducted in Timberlake, N.C. at the Homestead Steakhouse on September 9th at 1:00pm. Please contact the family to RSVP.

In lieu of customary remembrances the family requests with gratitude that donations be made in her name to the SECU Lower Cape Fear Hospice “Brunswick House” at 955 Mercy Lane, Bolivia, NC 28422 or to your local food pantry.
