Sarah was born September 4, 1939, in Brunswick County NC, the daughter of the late Royal Elbert Danford and Sarah Lenora Tharpe Danford. She married the love of her life, Warren Lee Knox, and they lived as husband and wife for 66 years. Their marriage included the birth of their three children, Jan K. Vereen (Wilbur), Keith Knox (Terri), David Knox (Amy). She was preceded in death by her brother James Elbert Danford, and is survived by her sister Sue (Russell) Corbitt. She loved her family and especially loved spending time with her children, and grandchildren Polly (Sam) Hill, Darol (Jessica) Huffman, Kara (Michael) Bryant, Malin Vereen, Martina Knox (Hunter), Charlie (Samantha) Knox, McKenzie (Michael) Dohrman, and great grandchildren Sydney, Mack, Evan, Cole, Lawson, Sutton, Kayleigh, Elena. Sarah also cherished her pet dog “Lacey”.
Graduating from Bolivia High School in 1957 and continuing her education at Miller Mott Business School, Sarah spent her working career managing, teaching, and leading. Her most cherished job allowed her to use her creative mind while serving others. As owner and operator of Fabric Fair in Bolivia, Sarah used her seamstress talents to create beautiful wedding gowns and occasion dresses. She assisted many local residents in picking out patterns and fabrics to create their own one-of-a-kind -garment. Alongside her husband Warren, they were the owners of WL Knox & Sons Farm Supply for many years. Some of her other career roles included Manger of The Creek & Forest Hills Apartments, Administrative Assistant at Coble Ward Smith Funeral Home, to name a few. Sarah was a long-standing member at Bethel United Methodist Church in Bolivia, where over the years she served as church treasurer and was a member of many church boards and committees. She enjoyed creating costumes for church plays and volunteering with vacation bible school. Her happy place was at Sunset Harbor where she loved sunning, fishing, and boating. She also enjoyed her flowers and gardening, painting and crafting.
On Sarah’s behalf, the family would like to thank her special care givers and friends, Iris Spencer, Jackie Normandy, and Leanna Edwards, and the Lower Cape Fear Life Care for their support and care.
