

Mrs. Hewett was born in Brunswick County on April 15, 1937 and was the daughter of the late John and Lena Holden Robinson. She was preceded in death by a brother, John Robinson and a great-grandchild, Gwynneth. She was a wife to one and a mother to all.
Shirley was the wife of Henry Hampton Hewett for 63 years, 21 of those years she was a devoted and faithful wife to Mr. Hewett while he served his country with the United States Air Force. In 1974 she received a certificate of appreciation from the Air Force for her unselfish and faithful devotion to her husband that helped her husband’s lasting contribution to our nation. She was also a faithful servant to her community. She received numerous award and certificates of appreciation because of her dedication and service. She was presented “The Order of The Long Leaf Pine” by Governor James B. Hunt Jr. and also a certificate of appreciation for outstanding Citizen involvement and Volunteer Service in 1983 and 1984 and again in 1986 and 1987 from Governor James G. Martin. In January 1989 she was awarded a certificate of appreciation for her outstanding job as an EMT Instructor. She faithfully served for many years with the Brunswick County Veteran’s Affairs office. On August 31, 2017 she received certificate of honor from the Department of Defense for her spouse’s service and sacrifice during the Vietnam War. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband , Henry Hampton Hewett; four children, Michael Hampton Hewett of Supply, Valerie Sue Isgett of Wesley Chapel, Florida, Jayne Todd and husband Doug of Supply, Shawn Keith Hewett and wife Jayne of Canal Winchester, Ohio; six grandchildren, Carrie, Jayne Marie, William Kelly, Kodi, Abigail, Jamie; three great grandchildren, Katelin, Annabella, Jessie Ann; a sister, Frieda M. Phillips and husband Wayne of Oregon.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday September 5th at two o’clock in the afternoon at Sharon United Methodist Church with Reverend Eddie Hill officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening from six o’clock until eight 0’clock at White Funeral Service, 603 Ocean Highway, Bolivia.
In lieu of customary remembrances the family request memorials be directed to the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick, 955 Mercy Lane Bolivia, NC 28422.
