On Thursday, 24 August 2023, Adelaida peacefully went with our Lord. Adelaida “Aida” Sunga was born on 16 December 1940 in the province of Pampanga, the Philippine Islands, grew up with Parents, Pedro and Epifania, younger Brother Alfonso and younger Sister Sevilla.
In the early 1960’s, Aida graduated from the Dental Medicine program at National University in Sampaloc Philippine Islands, also being crowned “Miss N.U.” Aida and Romualdo “Ray” Clemente married in 1964, and had their first child in 1967. Ray, a Filipino national who enlisted in the U.S. Navy, received orders to Lemoore California. The family immigrated to America in August 1968. Aida’s and Ray’s eldest son Raleigh was born in November 1968. Two years later in 1970, their youngest child, Ronald, was born.
The family relocated to Alameda California in 1974, then settled in San Diego California in 1976 where Aida remained for the rest of her earthly life. Aida was naturalized as an American citizen in 1980. She worked at Kyocera Global in Quality Assurance for thirty years. As a Chargers and Padres fan, Aida worked a side gig at Qualcomm Stadium for six years. She became a widow in 1989 when Ray went with our Lord. In December 2006, Aida became “Lola”, the best Grandma ever to Toni Hayes.
Aida travelled avidly using her U.S. passport in England, Scotland, Italy including Sicily, Vatican City, France, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Panama and the Galapagos Islands. She also had American adventures in Hawaii, Texas, Louisiana (including fleeing from Katrina), Arizona (Padres’ spring training), Missouri (where she survived from a stroke after attending Ron’s graduation from Army Advanced Individual Training), Washington, Virginia and of course Nevada (Las Vegas!). One of her favourite and most frequented destinations was Florida to see her Granddaughter Toni.
Toughing open-heart surgery twice, Aida participated in the American Heart Association Walks as a “red-capper”. She became mortgage-free and raised nearly a hundred orchids. Aida was an enormous Elvis and Tom Jones enthusiast plus enjoyed casinos, bingo, Candy Crush, Word Connect and The Price is Right. Her Filipino meals were unrivaled. Most of all, Aida genuinely conveyed caring, kindness and compassion with her huge heart, laughed easily and radiated vibrance.
Lola Aida Clemente is predeceased by her Husband, Ray and eldest Son, Raleigh. She is survived by Daughter Desiree Hayes with Husband David (Tony), their Daughter Toni who is Lola’s treasured Granddaughter; Son Ronald (Ron-Scout) with his Wife Wendy, their Children Clara Valenzuela and David (Phoebe) Valenzuela; Siblings Alfonso and Sevilla; multitudes of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Siblings In-Law.
Please, no presents. However, we always appreciate your presence and your prayers for Mom’s soul.
Lola Aida Clemente was a beautiful angel on Earth. She is now a beautiful angel in Heaven.
