Agapita “Aggie” Lontoc Tolentino was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world suddenly on July 13, 2021 at the age of 77. She was surrounded by her family.
She was born Agapita Alegre Lontoc in Kaytambog, Indang, Cavite, Philippines on April 20, 1944. She attended school in Indang, Cavite, and was the salutatorian of her high school graduating class. After high school, she enrolled in secretarial school in Tagaytay, Cavite. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from St. Joseph College in Cavite City after the birth of her first child.
Agapita met the love of her life, Melencio “Mel” Tolentino Jr., shortly after high school while attending classes in Tagaytay. They were married on March 27, 1962. Their first child, Amie, was born in January 1963. Jesse, their first son, was born in April 1968. Dante, their third child, was born in August 1970. A couple of years after Dante was born, the family moved to the United States to join Mel, who was serving in the U.S. Navy. The family lived in Port Hueneme/Oxnard, California for several years. Agapita immediately found work at a medical supply company where she worked for many years until the family moved to San Diego, California. She did not waste any time finding new employment. She worked in the accounting department of Fashion Conspiracy and eventually transferred to the accounting department of the Navy Exchange where she worked for 30 years. Aggie enjoyed her retirement. She traveled with her husband to many places, but nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was proud of all of them and would do anything for them. She truly exemplifies unconditional love for her family and worked tirelessly to keep them safe and fed. She loved her family and her family loved her.
Agapita is survived by her husband, Melencio; daughter, Amie Tolentino Rodriguez (John); son, Jesse Tolentino (Esther); grandsons, Justin Rodriguez, Jarek Tolentino, Nicholas Rodriguez and Jordan Tolentino; granddaughter, Andrea Garcia (Joshua); great-grandchildren, Desi, Johnny Dante and Elizabeth Garcia; and sister, Eugenia Lontoc. She is preceded in death by her son, Dante Tolentino; parents, Apolonio Lontoc and Teodora Alegre Lontoc; and sister, Leonida Lontoc Andrada.
Our family wishes to express our gratitude to everyone for their support during this difficult time. The prayers from family and friends will help us move forward, along with our faith in God.
God made a wonderful mother, a mother who never grows old;
He made her smile of the sunshine and he molded her heart of pure gold;
In her eyes He placed bright shining stars. In her cheeks fair roses you see;
God made a wonderful mother and He gave that dear mother to me.
