- - Alberto N. Ferrer (February 3, 1930 – May 12, 2021) breathed his last in the early evening of May 12, 2021 soon after our Mother’s 88th birthday. He leaves behind a wife, Gloria, married for 68 years and three sons, Eduardo Ferrer of San Diego, CA, Eric Ferrer of Menifee, CA and Albert Ferrer of San Francisco, CA. Dad was a graduate of Far Eastern University with a degree in Political Science and before joining the US Navy, was a high school history teacher at Rosario Institute in the Philippines. He was a man of unshakable conviction and lived a life of integrity and honor. Our Dad left us as a loved and respected man with a strong reputation as being a loving husband, father and educator.
Of course we, his children, didn't know him his entire life, but we heard the stories of how he was born in Rosario, Salinas, Cavite and his Father (Lolo Feliciano) passed away when he was 2 years old. He was raised by his Mother (Lola Antang) and grew up from a very poor family. Wasting food or spending money frivolously wasn’t something that he did. It wasn’t until Dad was around 25 years old that he met our Mother at a dance in Cavite, Philippines. While our Mother had many suitors at that time, it was Dad’s loyalty and strong work ethic that won her over. These values were strong throughout his life as he always interjected these traits into his family.
When I was born in Tennessee, my father had just joined the US Navy and worked in the kitchen as a steward and eventually in the disbursing (accounting) department, serving around the globe, a proud patriot in the Vietnam War. Being a hard-working man, to bring in extra money into the household, he worked as a part time janitor. At the end of his 20 years of service in the Navy, our family of 5 settled in Southern California (San Diego). His ‘retired’ years included working many years at the US Post Office where he was a supervisor of his area. For the past 12 years, Mom and Dad lived in Menifee enjoying their “real” retirement.
We’ll always remember our Father as a proud US Navy Veteran, who loved golfing and dancing the cha-cha with our Mother, and as a loving and frugal man who wanted to make sure we were safe and happy. His greatest joys were being with his family and saving money. He only wanted the best for us and to excel.
Rest in peace, Dear Father. Every door in the house is checked and secured. And don’t worry. You did good.
We will miss you dearly.
