Everyone’s life is the sum total of all of the people they have met, the things they have done, the places they have gone. Amparo Acuario Umali was no exception. She was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew her best, Amparo will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
Amparo’s was born on April 10, 1924 in Alusiis, San Narcisco Zambales, Philippines. Her parents' names were Eulalio Acuario and Pasencia Betita. She was raised with four sisters, Constancia, Gliceria, Luisa, Sotera and one brother Francisco.
Falling in love is a huge milestone for any person. Just knowing that you have met that special someone is a magical feeling. Amparo experienced that with Conrado L. Umali, Sr. and the couple exchanged wedding vows on January 11, 1947. The wedding took place at San Sebastian Catholic Church in San Narcisco Zambales, Philippines. Empathic and loyal, Amparo was committed to making her new family happy.
While everything a person does in life contributes to who they grow into, it is ultimately this same person who holds the most influence on the next generation. Amparo was blessed with seven children, (deceased) Baby Arnulfo, Joel, Adonis, Fidelia, Adelfina, Marilina and Conrado Jr., Amparo worked hard to be a good mother to her children and she did her best to fulfill their needs, raising her children in a positive and nurturing environment. Later on, Amparo was blessed with the gift of 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Amparo migrated with husband Conrado as a “special Immigrant” here in San Diego on December 1988.
Fortunately, Amparo enjoyed what she did for a living. A person's hobbies often mirror who they have become. Amparo enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in a number of different activities, including singing and dancing. Going to Senior Citizen gatherings on weekends. She was “First Honor” on their Hilot Mid-wife workshop and seminary in our home town of San Narciso, Philippines. She was rewarded with a full kit of Midwifery accessories at a time. Amparo did plenty of “Hilot/Midwife and Tandoc services to many people. She was very humble person and would always accept whatever was affordable for example, live Chickens, eggs, rice or vegetables. Sometimes just a simple “thank you” would be sufficient from persons who were less than fortunate.
Amparo A. Umali left us on May 7, 2012. She passed away San Diego, California due to complications of Pneumonia. She is survived by her six children Joel, Adonis, Fidelia, Adelfina, Marilina and Conrado Jr.

So this is Amparo’s life, the sum of the woman that she became. Simply stated, Amparo was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by her family and friends as being caring and giving, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Amparo leaves behind her a legacy of lifelong friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life Amparo touched will always remember her with a smile.
