

He was a retired US Navy Chief Petty Officer and honorably served for over 24 years. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean and Vietnam wars, and also an active member of the guerilla forces in the Philippines during World War II. Decorations included Vietnam Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Bronze Star (Vietnam Service Medal), Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medals.
Some of the ships he served on were the Boxer, Midway, Antietam, and finally the USS King.
After retiring from the Navy, Benjamin became a head custodian for the Chula Vista School District, was a member/officer of the Freemasons, an officer/advisor of the Castillejos Civic Club, and an auxiliary member of Legionary/Mary Model of Faith at the Most Precious Blood Church.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Lourdes A. Asuncion, son, Benjamin R. Asuncion, Jr. (daughter-in-law Arlene and grandchildren Steven, Benny III and Sabrina) of Oxnard, CA, and daughters, Raymunda Fox (son-in-law Dan and grandchildren Jackie, Jared and Thomas) of Monterey, CA, and Marcia Ricchiuti (son-in-law Paul and grandchildren Isabella and Nick) of Hawaii.
