Dino Villanueva was born on 7 AUG 1937 in San Fernando, Pampanga, in the Philippines. He was born to Santiago and Benita as the second eldest of six siblings (Apolinaria, Dino, Ely, Conrado, Perry, and Ben) and he was the eldest of the five boys. Dino was married to Marina and they had one son, Alvin. Dino was the best husband, father, and friend anyone could ever have. He was kind and generous. He was a terrific role model and he offered great advice. Most of all he was patient and loving; he loved his family, relatives, and friends.
He was also a hard-working man. Dino served on active duty with the U.S. Navy for approximately 22 years (1960-1982). Some of his duty stations included Japan, Alaska, Lemoore, Hawaii, and San Diego. A few of his commands included the USS BENJAMIN STODDERT (DDG-22), the USS CONSTELLATION (CV-64), and the Naval Training Center in San Diego where he finished his Navy career. He retired as a Mess Specialist Chief (MSC). He then worked as a government employee with Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity (SIMA) in the Comptroller’s office for another 20 years. He was active in the church working for Corpus Christi Catholic Parish as a Minister of Hospitality and he was also part of the Filipino Cursillo group.
Dino was multi-talented and his hobbies included carpentry, sewing, cooking, eating, watching football, and reading the bible. He was a great carpenter as he had a keen sense for quality workmanship. He built many things such as a restaurant bar stand, three large bird cages, an entire backyard patio, many wooden stools, and book stands. Dino was an even better at making home cooked meals. When it came to food, he could make just about anything. Although he never made it from scratch at home, his favorite food was pizza. His favorite drink was coffee with honey. For some time he was a San Diego Chargers fanatic but he enjoyed watching Drew Brees play even more. He was so disappointed when Drew Brees left San Diego for New Orleans that he started rooting for the Saints. During his life, Dino Villanueva shared his time and talents with many people. And he really touched their lives. He will certainly be missed.
