

Ceferino Flores Matanga was born August 16, 1938. USN Retired. Active Duty 1959-1979. Served on USS Suribachi (AE-21) during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis blockade. Vietnam veteran. Blue Water Navy. Served on the USS Mt. McKinley (AGC-7), USS Forrestal (CV59) and USS Constellation (CV64). After he retired from the Navy, he worked as a Naval Station Police Officer.
Our beloved sailor lost his battle with Parkinson’s disease secondary to exposure to Agent Orange (Dioxin Herbicide) while serving during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife, Bernarda Matanga, his children; Alma, Rino, Helen, Gemma and Daisy, his grandchildren, his great grandchildren, as well as family and friends.
A grateful nation bids this US Navy Shellback Sailor farewell, as he joins his fellow shipmates, and those who have gone before him the in afterlife. You are loved much and missed. Your sacrifice has not gone unnoticed. Your legacy continues to echo in eternity.

A Visitation for Ceferino will be held Monday, August 21, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Orchid Pavilion. A Funeral Service will occur Tuesday, August 22, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at The Orchid Pavilion. A Committal Service will follow from 11:15 AM to 11:45 AM at Miramar National Cemetery.
