Charles Vincent Demong, Jr. was born in Denver, Colorado and attended school there most of his elementary, junior high and high school years. He made several lifelong friends at Regis High School, a close-knit Catholic high school from which he graduated.
He learned to ski and play tennis as a boy, activities which he and his father both enjoyed. He later represented the University of Colorado on their ski team while he finished his degree there.
Chuck had three different careers at various stages in his life. In Eugene, Oregon, where he earned his Master’s degree, he was employed as a junior high, and later as a high school math and English teacher.
He learned masonry and worked as a journeyman in San Diego for the U.S. Navy in their facility maintenance division. His final career move was to become an estimator/planner for the U.S. Marine Corps at Point Loma.
His faith was an important aspect of his life and he regularly attended services in Eugene, Oregon and later in San Diego. He was also active in men’s bible study groups and other church activities.
He is survived by wife, Carol, sons, Eben and Brian, step-sons, Joshua and Peter, ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and siblings Sharon, Polly, Jean and Michael. He loved spending time with family and most vacations were spent traveling to be with one or more of them.
He enjoyed adding new knowledge and skills to what he knew and applied himself with extraordinary diligence to things that interested him. He taught himself Spanish, masonry, carpentry, and various software programs. He and his wife enjoyed reading, hiking and biking in San Diego County.
He has been, is being, and will continue to be sorely missed by those blessed to have known him well. He was serious-minded and devoted to anything he saw as his duty, but he also knew how to disconnect, relax and enjoy life.
His final days were spent at the Covenant Living at Mount Miguel campus, first in Memory Care and later in the Health Care Center. We honor him here today, but rest in the confidence that we will be reunited with him in due time. Meanwhile, we thank God for the privilege of having had him in our lives.
