David Bruce Costa, Sr. was born in Nebraska to Dean and Patty Costa, but spent most of his childhood in East County, California. He was a free-spirited, mischievous boy who had a great love for the outdoors. He has five brothers: Dean, Daniel, Darren, Terry and Fred; and two sisters: Vicky and Lori. He spent most of his time with his twin brother, Dan, running around looking for their next adventure. The two of them had a bond they shared until the end.
Dave struggled with alcohol and drugs in his early adult years, only to overcome his addictions with a renewed outlook on life. He realized how important his wife and five children were to him, and he wanted to make them proud.
Shortly after, he started a custom cabinet business out of his garage. With hard work, dedication and integrity he soon followed his dreams, and moved his business into an actual shop. Superior Cabinets “where quality and service come first” was born. He took great pride in his work and treated each project as if it was being built for his own home.
Dave had a love for classic car shows. He enjoyed cruising around in his “baby”--a bright orange 70½ Z28 Camaro. His car won him many trophies. He also enjoyed bike rides on his Big Dog and Harley with his friends that he had known since his “cool guy” years, AKA, his teens. He loved traveling as well. In the last year he visited Alaska, Oregon, Tahoe, Emerald Bay, San Francisco and Donner’s Pass. His favorite place was Yosemite. He loved the nature and beauty of it all.
Of all of Dave’s loves and accomplishments, his greatest was his family. He was so very proud of his tight-knit family: wife, kids and grandkids. Family is what he lived for.
He was diagnosed with stage-four colon cancer on December 5, 2009. Instead of accepting his grim diagnosis, he chose hope and sheer will. He was bound and determined to fight his cancer with every ounce of strength in his body, which he did--every day--until his last on November 15, 2010. He put up a fight that we all admired. He never gave up, and he never stopped fighting.
Dave is survived by his wife, Wendy, his five children-Amber, David Jr., Melissa, Cesar and Vinnie; and his three grandchildren: Ashlynn, Bella and Conner.
Arrangements under the direction of Glen Abbey Mortuary, Bonita, CA.
