

David Valdez Napalan was born in November 20, 1936 to Olongapo City, Phillipines. He was raised by his sister Ben from the age of 5 into his teenage years. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1954 and worked at the U.S Naval Base Subic Bay as a warehouse clerk until his enlistment into the U.S Navy. David enlisted into the U.S Navy in 1960. His first duty station was onboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise which he served there for 5 years. In December 1964 while on leave in Olongapo he met Martina Macasieb and later married her January 10,1965. From there he was then stationed in Pensacola, Fl for two years. There they had their first child Debbie. After that time, he was stationed in NAS Lemoore, CA attached to squadron 147 for 3 years. His next shore duty was in Seattle, Wa for 2 years and there they had there second child Melvin. He was then stationed in Bremerton, Wa onboard the aircraft carrier USS Constellation for 5 years. His last tour he worked at Naval Training Center in San Diego. He retired honorably from the Navy in 1982. David was always advising his family that education was very important so after his retirement from the U.S Navy he attended Southwestern College to study business. There he earned his associates and was then able to get a Federal job as a budget accountant at Fleet Training Center and worked at Center for Information Dominance before his retirement in 2005. David enjoyed bowling with his compadres every week. He taught his grandchildren to bowl and was very proud of their bowling accomplishments. One of his favorite excersises was to swim in his backyard pool where he taught all 8 of his grandchildren and one great grandchild to swim. He was very passionate about gardening and over the years he grew orchids, cactus, plums, avocado, dragonfruit, pears, calamansi, and tomatoes just to name a few. He loved to cook and bake. Everyone's favorite dish was his delicious lasagna. David is survived through his beautiful wife Martina, 2 children Debbie and Melvin, his 8 grandchildren Richard III, Divina, Anthony, Marlon, Kanoa, Moses, Jasmine, Gabriel and great grandson Richard IV.
